Ontario says COVID-19 hospitalizations by vax status no longer an "appropriate" comparison
So they've stopped publishing the data.
On June 12th I published a post discussing how Ontario had stopped updating their Covid data webpage and were directing people to their data catalogue instead. At that time I committed to providing a DIY pie chart update based on the data catalogue data every few days or once a week at a minimum. Well, shortly thereafter Ontario switched from daily data updates to weekly updates meaning that once a week would be the most frequent possible. Admittedly, I fell behind in providing the DIY pie chart so I committed myself to getting it done today. Imagine my surprise when I went to the data catalogue to get the latest update only to find that the hospitalizations data (including ICU) is no longer being published as of June 23rd.
As a result, our pie chart now looks like this:
Coincidently, Dr. Geert Vanden Bossche has just published an update on his (accurate to date) predictions of where things are headed. A key excerpt is as follows:
“When the ratio of the vaccinated to unvaccinated people in the age group 10-60 years old, who are hospitalized because of Covid-19, starts to rapidly increase, we will know that the super C-19 pandemic has begun. That’s the most sensitive criterion!”
I’m sure the discontinuation of data on hospitalization by vaccine status is just a random coincidence. That being said, I’d still recommend reading Geert’s summary of his latest update available via the link below.
It’s also interesting to note that all of the Canadian health data reporting that I have been following to date has now switched from daily to weekly or bi-weekly updates. So overall our public health data view into vaccine outcomes is getting smaller and smaller.
